Back in March, Big Finish announced an exciting new Doctor Who audio adventure, Fallen Heroes, which takes place in a small quiet coastal town of Oakview. Sounds familiar? Alongside its reveal, the company published an interview with writer, Alfie Shaw, in which he lists True Detective and Alan Wake 2 as inspirations for the story.
If you're a Doctor Who too, the audio adventure is now available to purchase via the Big Finish website, HERE. There's also a trailer if you want to get a little teaser before jumping in.
Fallen Heroes is a three part audio series created and published by Big Finish. While the studio is best known for its Doctor Who adventures, they have also worked on a number of series including The Prisoner, The Avengers, and Blake's 7 over its twenty-five-year history.
Alongside its reveal earlier in the year, Alfie Shaw spoke about his approach to the story stating that, “The inspiration for this set was stuff like True Detective and Alan Wake 2. Yes, there’s a murder to be solved, but the focus is more on how the crime affects those caught up in it rather than a Christie-style whodunnit. I really wanted it to almost not be Doctor Who, and the fact it must become Doctor Who again is part of what messes things up for everyone.”
Fallen Heroes will be set on the planet Falk, and focuses on a murder in the small, quaint coastal town of Oakview. Two Galactic Investigation Bureau agents have been sent to investigate the crime and possible connections to the Clock Face Killer.
You probably don't need to go into the audiobook with an extensive knowledge of the series, but if you want a little more background, we've got your back! For the show's 50th anniversary, the TV writers introduced “The War Doctor”, a incarnation which took place between the eighth (Paul McGann) and ninth doctors (Christopher Eccleston). This version was involved in the devastating Time War, a long-lasting battle between Gallifrey and Skaro which had implications and casualties across several galaxies. Originally played in the show by John Hurt, the War Doctor has since been performed by Jonathon Carley in audio plays following his sad passing.
