The Behind the Voice podcast is back with another Alan Wake 2 themed episode! This time Abhi Jha talks to Janina Gavankar, the actor behind the fierce FBC Agent Kieran Estevez, the lead of Alan Wake 2's expansion, The Lake House.
Gavankar joins the long line of Alan Wake 2 actors who have been in the Behind the Voice spotlight. Over the past year, Abhi has spoken to Ilkka Villi (Alan Wake, Mr Scratch, Thomas Zane), David Harewood (Warlin Door), Matthew Porretta (Alan Wake, Dr Casper Darling, Mr Scratch) as well as Remedy's Creative Director, Sam Lake (Alex Casey), and Christina Cole (Christina Cole).
Janina Gavankar was someone that I was hoping to interview when the game originally came out. Especially knowing her background and watching the Quantum Break's Time Knife live. Then seeing that dream progression over eight years for an actor from fan into leading lady for the expansion. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for us, but I was excited that Behind the Voice was able to speak with her in their latest podcast episode.
Throughout their conversation, they talk about that Time Knife reading, the cautious reaction as an actor for new roles, the musical aspects of the game, and her work on other titles such as Stray Gods and Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Talking about starting work on Alan Wake 2, she talks about the effortless mindset following Remedy's kind of weirdness. In the hour-long interview, she reveals that “[Sam Lake] was there, so we got to hang out and he showed me everything thus far. So, I got to see art. I got to see some cutscenes. I got to see a lot of things to help me step into it. But, y'know, in my case, I've played Remedy games, I know the tone in the world so well that I'm like 'yep, I get it.'"
