[RTX PREVIEW] Gamescom 2019: Ray Tracing Is Highly Focused At The Event!
     The Digital Weekly
After watching some sequences of Control’s gameplay, we will relate it to Quantum Break. Quantum Break was also developed by Remedy, and it looks like it is based on its code. Gameplay mechanics of the game is a joy to watch, and the character can use her mere supernatural powers in a lost city. This game’s gameplay is enough to build hype, and it truly deserved it. We will see more action when the game will release on 27th August.

[RTX PREVIEW] Gamescom 2019: did ray tracing finally find its killer app?
     Eurogamer
There were many highlights for Digital Foundry at this year's Gamescom, from the impressive Switch line-up to the hugely impressive retro-inspired Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. We'll be covering both of those soon - but with the absence of any next-gen console reveal, it was Nvidia that provided the most tantalising glimpse of the future of games technology. Almost one year after its RTX video cards launched, there's the sense that support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing is gathering momentum and in Minecraft RTX, there's a near-total implementation of RT that sets the imagination on fire.

Gamescom 2019 Day #4 Wrap-Up!
[New Control Giveaway, Interviews, and Articles]

It's been a busy week for the away team in Cologne, but we're almost at the end of Gamescom 2019, with just one day to go!

A quick reminder to those attending the show tomorrow that the Control booth has sometimes had queues spanning about three hours. While there are plenty of stations available, it has proved exceptionally popular especially with a thirty-minute demo. So make sure to get there early! It's in Hall 7 at the PlayStation booth. Show attendees who visit the booth will also receive a special "Dynamic Black Pyramid" theme for the PS4.

Attending the show. Remedy has a number of developers at the studio including Juha Vaino (Lead Producer), Brooke Maggs (Narrative Designer), Minna Etsalo (Senior Graphic Designer), Vida Starฤeviฤ‡ (Community Manager), and Thomas Puha (Communications Director), along with Sari Lindberg (Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist), Wajhi Jafri (Senior Producer), and Mikaela ร–berg-Mattila (HR Director). The developers have also invited a number of influencers to report on the game throughout the week. We'll be sure to keep you up to date on all the announcements during the event with daily wrap-ups like this one!

Getting there. If you need any help finding the convention centre, the event website has a collection of guides ranging from public transport to motorway access, wheelchair accessibility, and also food. Check out the official list of guides, HERE!

[Open to Australian residents] In our day three wrap-up, we talked a little about Stevivor's amazing competition which is open to fans in Australia and New Zealand. Today another Australian-based website, Press Start, has published their own competition with five Control press packs up for grabs. Unfortunately, it's only open to residents in Australia, but if you can, make sure to enter!

Control’s ‘new weird’ aesthetic builds on the likes of Twin Peaks and Annihilation
     PCGamesN (with Brooke Maggs)

Remedy’s Control launches next week, and it looks to be delightfully bizarre even by the standards of the studio which brought us Alan Wake. While fans are still salivating over the possibility of an Alan Wake 2, Control is generating its own buzz as an original title even with its weirdness in mind (the Avengers-style superpowers probably help, too), and narrative designer Brooke Maggs believes that shows like Stranger Things have helped whet appetites for this type of unusual storytelling.

Gamescom 2019 made me believe in ray tracing again
     TechRadar
However, once the graphics card made its way to my doorstep, I had to wait a while to see what ray tracing looked like. This is, of course, while enjoying the amazing 4K gaming performance, so it wasn't all a loss. However, at Gamescom 2019, I got a chance to see what the future of ray tracing will look like, if only just a glimpse. Not only are more AAA games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Watch Dogs: Legion implementing the tech, but games like Minecraft are really taking things to another level entirely.

Control was Gamescom’s best Marvel’s Avengers game
     PCGamesN
Its projectiles thump into targets with a satisfying clout that equals any of Stark’s anti-personnel munitions. They knock enemies off their feet and smear a glowing cloud of pastel-tinted smoke across the space in which your victim formerly stood. And like Stark’s suit, the weapon transforms, switching between functions – whether that’s spraying bullets, shotgun pellets, or micro-missiles – as its form subtly shifts.

Poets of the Fall Works With Remedy On Control

Today Poets of the Fall and Remedy announced a continuation of their partnership, as the band and studio collaborated once again for the upcoming title, Control.

The reveal, scheduled during Gamescom, came in the form of a video, with Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy) and Marko Saaresto (vocalist and co-founder of Poets of the Fall) talking to fans about their latest collaboration. In the reveal, the duo announced that the song, The Dark Disquiet (from the band's latest album, Ultraviolet), will also make an appearance in the game, along with a special surprise for players.

Control On The PlayStation Stage

Yesterday Mikael Kasurinen (Game Director) and Thomas Puha (Communications Director) took to the PlayStation stage to show Control to show attendees. During their forty-five-minute session, they played a section of the game set deeper into the game than previously seen, judging by the mission goals. Because of this, if you're trying to avoid spoilers, this may one to avoid for the time being, if you're wary about knowing too much before you play.

If you want to catch the presentation, you can check out the full video below:

PlayStation Underground Showcases Control Mission

Kristen Titus Zitani and Tim Turi from Sony sat down with 505Games' Shant Boyatzian, for a new episode of PlayStation Underground featuring what looks to be the "Directorial Override" mission from Control. The mission was previously shown at E3 2019 and in a developer livestream soon after. The episode lasts just over twenty minutes and is perfect for players who are curious about the title and knows the basics but wants to dive a little deeper before committing.

You can watch the full interview with Shant below:

Control Live on Rocket Beans

In addition to having a playable demo on the show floor, Thomas and Vida joined the Rocket Beans Gamescom livestream to tell viewers more about the title and to show a little gameplay from the Central Research section. The section lasts approximately twenty-five minutes and you can watch their interview in full here:

Control Launch Trailer

With Control just a week away, Remedy and 505Games have published their launch trailer featuring the weird and wonderful FBC. The new clips were accompanied with "Madness" by Ruelle, which made the video eerily beautiful. It's definitely one of the best trailers created for the game and gorgeously represents the title.

While the trailer is a fantastic glimpse into the game for new players, if you're a fan looking to avoid spoilers, you may want to give this specific trailer a miss until after you have played the game as it features new environments, creatures, and situations never before shown.

Transcript: "You called me. So here I am." "Things change when you become Director. Something's coming. Something unbelievable, unknowable. Choas of biblical proportions."

Tero Virtala's Devcom Talk, Predicted Control Sales

While it's slightly rare for developers to talk about sale goals or predictions ahead of launch, in his Devcom talk, Tero Virtala (CEO at Remedy) revealed exactly that for Control. In a report published by PC Games Insider who was in attendance at the talk, Virtala stated that while he couldn't give the exact number for the game, "within one-to-two million units, we will have broken even. After that we are profitable." The game had a budget of between €20 million to €30 million, and has taken three years in development with an average of 100 devs working on the title.

Part of the money raised for the project has been through development fees from 505Games, and partially self-financed as reported in the studios H1 2019 Financial Report. (We are nerds so if you're interested, we've also broken down all of the new information, HERE!)

Nvidia's Control RTX Trailer

Ahead of event doors opening, yesterday Nvidia released a brand new trailer showcasing Control on PC with RTX enabled. The new trailer is a minute long and can be described more like a short art film; showing off the characters and environments in a cinematic way that emphasize the light and shadows which ray-tracing helps make look more realistic.

All the footage shown in the trailer was recorded with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080.

Nvidia's Gamescom Giveaway

In addition to the new trailer, Nvidia also has an exciting giveaway planned for this week. Starting today, the company will be giving away a specially selected prize each day for the next seven days. Are you interested? Make sure to follow the Nvidia social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) and keep an eye out for prompts to enter.

Devcom Announces New Speakers for 2019

E3 2019 only closed its doors a couple of weeks ago, but already the first details about Remedy's Gamescom plans are being revealed, starting with Devcom!

Devcom starts just ahead of Gamescom, taking place between August 17-19th at the Congress Center East in Cologne. It's a conference just for game developers to network and to learn more about other studios. The first official day begins on August 17th and consists of a networking dinner, but it's on the two following days that talks and workshops take place. On those days, there are two familiar names from Remedy stepping up on stage to deliver lectures.

.
The first is Matias Myllyrinne who held the position of CEO at Remedy until June 2015 when he announced his departure. He has since founded a brand new mobile studio called Redhill Games in November 2018, with their first project currently in development.

The second is Tero Virtala, Remedy's current CEO who succeeded Matias in August 2016, following the launch of Quantum Break. Since he has taken over the role, he has overseen the company transition from a single project studio into a multi-project studio, a format which currently sees three games in production.

Neither Matias' or Tero's talks have been scheduled and, as of yet, their topics haven't been revealed, but we'll let you know as soon as we have more details.
