Remedy Reveals Language Support List for CONTROL Resonant

This week, Remedy has revealed the full list of languages that will be supported at CONTROL Resonant's launch. The list expands the number of those included for Control, with twice as many languages now receiving full audio support.

Resonant will fully support eight languages from day one, with audio and interface, as well as subtitles. They include English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese (Mandarin Spoken) and Spanish (Spain).

A further seven languages will be supported only within the interface and subtitles. These include Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish (LATAM), Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

The long list is an impressive feat! The process of localising a game is much more than players think, and can be a strange challenge for developers. Localisation is an all-encompassing term that ranges from character dialogue and user interfaces to item descriptions and in-game text, and also covers elements such as data privacy laws and legal regional compliance. It often requires working with external companies, with writers fielding questions about tone and references, to ensure that each translation matches the original script and sentiment. With Remedy's scripts being as packed as they are, that can be a challenge all in itself. And for fully supported languages, it requires casting additional actors for the full range of characters, setting up international recording sessions, and polishing the audio. To match a cinematic perfectly, the lines would also need to stick to a strict time. As all of these things bring extra work and cost more, careful consideration is put into which markets can be supported with the restraints.

Despite being self-published, CONTROL Resonant offers the largest selection of languages supported by any Remedy game, even with past collaborations with big-name publishers such as Smilegate, Microsoft Game Studios, and 505 Games.
