Remedy & Poets of the Fall Holiday Messages

Before closing down the studios for the holidays, Remedy and Poets of the Fall posted their final messages on their social media channels, spreading season's greetings and talking about their hopes for 2025.

Up first is Remedy, whose festive artwork was paired with a retrospective article. As the team look back on the past twelve months, they celebrate the reveal of FBC: Firebreak (set for release in 2025), as well as the launch of Alan Wake 2's expansions, Night Springs and The Lake House. They also reflect on the success of the Alan Wake Photo Mode, the return of the developer livestreams, and Control's fifth anniversary. Check it out full article on their website, HERE! (archived)

For Poets of the Fall, their message accompanied a festive group photograph, mixing sunglasses and Santa hats. With Instagram more flexible with text limitations, the band wrote a letter there in full for their community. They talk about their well-deserved holiday and Olli's new solo album, alongside sharing their hopes for 2025. For those hoping for new music, they will begin production on their next album and singles. Check out the full letter below!

Calling all Poets of the Fall and Old Gods of Asgard fans! Backstage Rockshop, the band's official webstore, has a selection of exclusive freshly signed vinyls, alongside deals on their older stock, perfect for a gift as a little new year's treat.

Before we jump into the vinyl details, let's do a quick rundown of the kind of merchandise available in the sale. Included in the discounts are fans, mousemats, t-shirts, hoodies, recycled backdrop pouches (Ultraviolet), pens, necklaces, silicone wristbands, and a beanie hat. You can view the full range, HERE. There are also been new additions to the store to celebrate the lead guitarist's debut solo album, Lost Within The Fire. Make sure to check them out too.

Now, let's get to those signed vinyls! There are two currently in stock; Signs of Life and Ghostlight

Signs of Life was the band's debut album, revisited in 2023 for a special twentieth anniversary vinyl release. The collection is perhaps best known to Remedy fans for it's track, Late Goodbye, the first single released by the band for Max Payne: The Fall of Max Payne. The album has been pressed on a special curacao turquoise vinyl, mirroring the rustic imagery of the iconic cover. Both pieces are secured inside a gatefold cardboard sleeve which has been signed by the three founding members of the band.

The tracklist for Signs of Life includes: Lift, Overboard, Late Goodbye, Don't Mess With Me, 3AM, Stay, Seek You Out, Shallow, Everything Fades, Someone Special, Illusion & Dream, and Sleep.

Both the signed and unsigned vinyl can be purchased from the webstore for 37,28€ (£30.91).

Published in 2022, Ghostlight is the band's most recent album. As the group works in trilogies, the collection is considered to be the completion of Poets of the Fall's third trilogy, which also includes Clearview and Ultraviolet. There's also a Remedy-twist in there too; for Alan Wake nerds out there, you may recognise Heroes and Villains from the sequel's credits. The songs have been pressed on two black LPs, and secured inside a cardboard wallet, which has also been signed by the three founding members of the band.

The tracklist for Ghostlight includes: Firedancer, Requiem for My Harlequin, Sounds of Yesterday, Revelations, Heroes and Villains, Lust for Life, Chasing Echoes, Weaver of Dreams, Hello Cabaret, and Beyond the Horizon

The signed vinyl is available from the webstore for 36,32 € (£30.12).

The Game Awards 2024 Wrap-Up [Sam Lake Presents Narrative Award & Gamespot Interview]

While Remedy wasn't among the nominations at The Game Awards this year, the show wasn't without a studio-themed twist. Presenting the award for Best Narrative was Sam Lake (Remedy's Creative Director) who approached it with an Alex Casey nudge, but that wasn't his only duty while in the States. Below is a quick wrap-up of The Game Awards side of things!

Ahead of the ceremony itself, GameSpot held a pre-show event, inviting developers and actors onto their sofa to nerd out about the previous twelve months. Kicking off the show, was an interview with Sam, Neil Newborn (Actor, Baldur's Gate III), Alix Wilton Regan (Actor, Perfect Dark) and Abubakar Salim (Actor & Game Director, Tales of Kenzera: Zau). In their conversation, they talk about their success at last year's show and what keeps going after a tough year in the industry. You can watch the discussion in full on the GameSpot YouTube channel, HERE (timestamped at 32:10).

Now, let's get to the show! At The Game Awards, Sam was invited to present the award, on stage, for Best Narrative.

Taking to the stage, accompanied by POE's This Road, Sam's twist began as he reached the microphone, triggering the broadcast to enter a greyscale filter. In a pre-recorded internal voice-over, he reads, “I was back at The Game Awards. It felt like a loop. I had lost track of how many times I've been here. How many awards I'd won. Something kept nagging at me, forcing me to snap out of my revelry. I was here to do a job. Hand out the award for Best Narrative. The nominees were each incredible, frankly I was so impressed by the storytelling genius, I was overcome by a massive fit of jealousy. But they never need to know that, play it cool. On the stage, I felt an urge to dance, that's what they all wanted. Hmm, I'll save it for another time. Keep this short.” The screen returns to colour as he speaks into the microphone, “here are the nominees for Best Narrative.”

For this year, the Best Narrative nominees were Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Metaphor: Refantazio, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Silent Hill 2. The category was ultimately won by Metaphor: Refantazio.
The Game Awards wasn't the only event that Lake travelled to while in Los Angles. As well as quickly meeting up with the Director herself, Courtney Hope for coffee, he also attended a signing alongside POE to celebrate the launch of her new vinyl, This Road. The first part of the day, the signing itself, was held at Amoeba Hollywood at 5pm local time with local fans invited to be one of the first to own the LP! The evening, hosted by Siren Society, featured a live performance of the songs at EastWest Studios. Make sure to check out our wrap-up of the signing and performance, HERE!

Happy Holidays from The Sudden Stop
w. commissioned artwork by Rist!

Happy Holidays! It's Christmas Eve as I write this and, for my family, today is traditionally spent in a pre-holiday panic. There's always so much to do, from making sure that everyone is able to travel to food preparation, to wrapping gifts, and trying to remember where we put the gifts in the first place. Whether you're spending the holidays in a constant panic (I'm also flying today!), or you're settling down for a relaxing day, I hope you have an incredible holiday.

Every year, we commission an artist in the community to create a special piece. This year, we had the pleasure of working with Rist (aka @HiThereRist) who created a nerdy and festive scene packed with Control and Alan Wake Easter Eggs.

Rist is such a wonderful person and artist who has been a cheerleader in the community for years after discovering the studio through Alan Wake and Quantum Break. We spoke to them in 2021 about their art when they were selected for our Community Spotlight, and their art has constantly been a highlight in our feeds over the years. If you haven't already, make sure to follow them!

Poe & Sam Lake Signs Alan Wake 2-Inspired Vinyl. This Road at Amoeba Hollywood (w. Interview)

Last week, Poe and Sam Lake travelled to Amoeba Hollywood in Los Angeles, for a special signing of the artist's latest release, This Road. Inspired by Alan Wake 2, the 12" vinyl features both the title track, This Road, and 6 Deep Breaths as featured in Remedy's latest adventure. With Sam already in the West Coast for The Game Awards, the duo teamed up for a special event; during the day the two would sign copies of the vinyl and pose for photographs with fans, in the evening they would take part in a special live performance hosted by Siren Society.

The live performance was held at the EastWest Studios, where Poe dazzled listeners with performances of her latest works in the Frank Sinatra room. While it's hard to find out for sure, the event looks to be invite-only, though recordings were allowed to take place with many sharing their memories of the night to Instagram.

While the events were targeted for those who were able to attend in person, there is a treat for those following online. On the day, Ethan Huang (Editor and Producer for Annenerg Media) sat down with both artists in a rare double interview. In the discussion, Poe talks about the complicated reasons behind her public hiatus from music, her connection to Alan Wake, and the original discussions which kindled their collaboration. You can read the full interview, HERE. (Archived)
