New Poets of the Fall Alexander Theatre Session Out Now!
Episode 10: Children of the Sun

Poets of the Fall is back with their tenth Alexander Theatre Session, and it's an extra special one!

For their October release, Children of the Sun, the band teamed up with Triosis+, forming the largest acoustic performance so far seen on the Alexander Theatre Sessions. It's also my personal favourite from of the ten sessions they've released so far this year, as they delivered a performance both reassuring but also hauntingly beautiful.

The song was originally released on 30 September 2016, the fifth song on the band's seventh studio album, Clearview. The album shot to second place in the Finnish charts upon its release. A music video, directed by Saku Perintö, was uploaded on the band's YouTube channel six months later.

The latest Alexander Theatre recording was filmed by Miika Hakala, Mauri Hiltunen and Tiia Öhman. It was directed, edited and mixed by Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen. The performance was arranged by Poets of the Fall and Triosis+, and was recorded by Poets of the Fall and Ville Riippa. Lights were by Tuittu Teivainen and Miika Hakala. Hair and make-up on the day was by Minna Parikka.

Children of the Sun (Alexander Theatre Session) is now available on Spotify , iTunes , Amazon , and Google Play!

Poets of the Fall Spotlights Lift In New Acoustic Alexander Theatre Session

Throughout 2020, Poets of the Fall have been uploading a special acoustic rendition of their songs each month, recorded at the incredible Alexander Theatre in Helsinki. For August, they did something extra special with a brand new twist on one of their most iconic songs. This month put Lift in the spotlight with Marko's vocals paired with a gorgeous piano backing track.

Lift was the second single from the band's debut album, Signs of Life, and is still one of their most best-loved and iconic songs. It was initially released on September 9th 2004 as a single, with the CD containing a radio edit, the full edit, and a bonus song The Beautiful Ones. Once released, the song reached #8 on the Finnish Top 40 where it remained there for almost three months. For fans who purchased the Signs of Life album, a special login and password were included to unlock an addition Lift (Dramadance Remix) produced by Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen.

The video was filmed by Tiia Öhman and Markus "Captain Kaarlonen", the latter also recorded, mixed, and edited the piece. Lights were by Tuittu Teivainen. The lighting and camera technician was Henri Ilanen, with extra cameras provided by Studio Varustamo.

Poets of the Fall Spotlights Fragile In New Alexander Theatre Session

Last week, Poets of the Fall uploaded the recording to their fifth Alexander Theatre session! This time they went back to their earlier work with an intimate acoustic recording of Fragile.

Fragile was first heard in the band's third album, Revolution Roulette, which launched on March 26th 2008. After its release, the album went straight to the top of the charts in Finland, and was certified gold just two weeks after. While Fragile was never a single (that honour went to The Ultimate Fling and Diamonds for Tears), the track has been a regular addition to the band's playlist at events.

Poets of the Fall Performs "King of Fools
[Alexander Theatre Session / Episode One]

Earlier this month, Poets of the Fall teased a new video series filmed at Alexander Theater (Aleksanterin Teatteri) in Helsinki that would span throughout 2020.

These intimate recordings will see the band returning to some of their tracks, both recent and classic, for a special acoustic edition that they're describing as "raw and unplugged". There will be twelve episodes in total spanning throughout the entire year, with new videos being posted on a monthly basis on their YouTube channel and audio-recordings of the songs available through the band's Spotify.

The first episode is out now and features a soft and personal rendition of King of Fools from their album, Carnival of Rust (2006). You can watch the full session below!

A bit of information about the band: Although two of the band members were involved in Remedy's original Max Payne title, officially the band's relationship started back in 2003 with Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. For the game, Poets created their first song, Late Goodbye based on a poem by Sam Lake, after a conversation between Marko and Sam about the formation of his new group.

Almost a decade later, the band returned for studio's next game, Alan Wake, creating the custom songs The Poet and the Muse and Children of the Elder God under their alter-ego Old Gods of Asgard. Their song War, from their album, Twilight Theater, also made an appearance in the game. They returned again two years later for Alan Wake's American Nightmare, with the songs Balance Slays the Demon and The Happy Song (the latter also appearing in the album Temple of Thought).

The song Labyrinth from their Clearview album was inspired by Quantum Break; initially created for the game, issues outside of both parties' control led it to be linked to the game but not featured in it. But in 2019, the band and studio once again announced the continuation of their partnership, this time bringing Take Control to the table, which was used during the Control's memorable Ashtray Maze sequence.
