Since 2010, Remedy has been integrating music into their experiences to add an extra level of depth. While Alan Wake blended licensed music with custom tracks, Alan Wake 2 surprised fans with a beautiful collection of specially crafted pieces. And it looks like CONTROL Resonant is set to continue that wonderful tradition with "Manalan Mailla" by local artist, Vilma Jää.
Coinciding with the release of their Summer Games Fest trailer, Remedy followed up on social media, revealing the song viewers had just gotten a taste of. In their posts, they write, "Manalan Mailla by Finnish ethno-pop artist Vilma Jää is out wherever you find music. Inspired by the Ingrian ensemble runolaulu tradition, you first heard it in our Paranatural Manhattan trailer!"
The song is available now on all music platforms, including Spotify. And similar to Control's Sankarin Tango, the piece is performed in Finnish, the developer's native language.
Plus! If you're interested in an English translation, there's a fan-created video featuring both lyrics. Thank you to LEYLINE for putting in the work to translate it. The video also adds some extra cultural context, stating in its caption, "Manalan Mailla" draws inspiration from Finnish folklore and mythology, particularly Manala, the realm of the dead. The song combines haunting traditional elements with themes of loss, self-discovery, and overcoming darkness."
