If you've yet to jump into Control, this holiday may be the perfect time to do that! With Remedy dropping its epic trailer for the sequel, Control Resonant, yesterday morning, the studio will be gearing up for its launch in 2026. While they've said that you don't literarily have to play the original, we know from friends' past experience that those who do explore it first have a richer experience of the story. Similar to Alan Wake and Alan Wake II, where Alan Wake II was both a sequel and a standalone experience.
While not announced directly, Control Resonant is likely to be part of the Remedy Connected Universe, which links the Alan Wake and Control series.
What Do I Need To Play? If you're new to Remedy's work and discovered this page when looking around for more information, hello! The core Remedy Connected Universe experience beings with Alan Wake (either original or remastered edition), Control, and then Alan Wake 2. Those are the core games, in chronological order, that will help you understand the game universe.
If you want to expand your knowledge, Max Payne 1&2, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Quantum Break, and FBC: Firebreak do link back into RCU, just in more minor ways. For example, Quantum Break was developed by Remedy, but is not officially part of the RCU as Microsoft holds the IP. However if you play Alan Wake 2's expansion, Night Springs, there's a very definite Quantum Break vibe.
What Version of Control Do I Get? There are two versions of Control; the standard base game and the Ultimate Edition. If you purchase the standard game, you will either need to get the Season Pass or the two expansions separately. The Control Ultimate Edition is the complete experience with both DLC.
At the moment, both Humble Bundle and Steam has Control Ultimate Edition on sale!
For the next few hours, Control can be purchased as part of the Humble Heroines bundle, where proceeds go to Girls Who Code and Girls Make Games Scholarship Fund. Along with the Control Ultimate Edition, you will also be able to pick up Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Darksiders III, Beyond: Two Souls, Pseudoregalia, Thief of Thieves, and Kill the Crows. The bundle costs at least £9.02 for all seven games. Learn more about the Humble Heroines Bundle, HERE.
Control Ultimate Edition is also on sale on Steam over the weekend, where it has received a hefty 85% price drop. If you only want to purchase Control, you can get it direct from the Steam page, HERE.
