It's been a weird week, but one highlight has been the New York Game Awards, which saw Remedy take home two awards; "Best World" and "Best Acting".
The New York Game Awards is an annual ceremony celebrating the games industry organised by the New York Video Game Critic Circle, a non-profit which brings comprehensive classes and workshops in journalism and game narrative to schools and homeless shelters across New York City, supporting aspiring developers and journalists regardless of financial security or backing. You can learn more about the work they do HERE.Dressed in his motion capture suit, Sam Lake took a moment from working on the DLC packs to record a special acceptance speech for "Best World". In the message, he states, "Hello, New York Game Awards; this is Sam Lake from Remedy. As you can see, we are in the middle of mo-caping DLC content for Alan Wake 2, but we wanted to take this moment to say a huge thank you for the award of "Best World". Building these worlds is an ambitious team effort. The world is such a key part of any video game. This is an honour. Thank you very much." For "Best World", For Best World, the category had tough competition with Alan Wake 2 up against Starfield, Chants of Sennaar, Final Fantasy XVI, Baldur's Gate III, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
But that's not all! Our Saga Anderson, Melanie Liburd, won "Best Acting", a category that she's been no stranger to. The award was accepted on behalf of Melanie by Sam Lake, stating, "Hey, Sam Lake from Remedy, again. I wanted to say a huge thanks on behalf of Melanie Liburd and the whole Remedy and Epic team for the award of "Best Acting". Creating a new hero character for a game is a long process, with our wonderful start making Saga Anderson come alive in collaboration with writing, directing, modelling, and many other areas of our team. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
