Poets of the Fall Reveals Debut Old Gods of Asgard Album, Rebirth - Greatest Hits [Out December 8th!]

This week, Poets of the Fall announced a new album... with a twist. If you're a fan of Old Gods of Asgard (and frankly, who isn't), make sure to keep an eye out for Rebirth - Greatest Hits, a compilation album launching later this year!

The album (and limited edition bundles) is currently available for pre-order at the Backstage Rockshop, host of the band's official webstore.  While the full tracklist will be available later, we know that the collection will feature four previously released Olds Gods of Asgard tracks, the three songs set to be featured in Alan Wake 2, and a special item just for the album.

On the Rebirth - Greatest Hits formation, Marko Saaresto (Vocalist on Poets of the Fall and Old Gods of Asgard) stated, "Creating Rebirth was like chasing stars over the seas of our imagination. Furthermore, it was incredible to witness the skill and dedication of everyone we worked with on this project. We all poured our hearts and souls into this sonic journey."

“This album is a culmination of a long and wonderous journey of artistic collaboration between friends. A fever dream come true," describes Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy. "The songs play a key role in the games Alan Wake, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Control and Alan Wake 2, deepening the lore or setting up a memorable scene. We hope you will love the music as much as we have loved creating both the band and the songs.”

Rebirth - Greatest Hits is available to pre-order now! The standard CD is available at 18,99€, with vinyl and gold vinyl available from 37,99€. If you want to represent your favourite fictional band, there are also bundles with t-shirts (sold separately, too) and a special Rebirth hoodie.

Official Description of Rebirth - Greatest Hits: Crafted over years that can only be described as a melodic odyssey, this album encapsulates the band's decades-spanning virtuosity and unbridled creativity.

In this magnum opus, the Old Gods have woven a tapestry of sound that is nothing short of breathtaking. It unleashes a barrage of rock 'n' roll anthems that could grind rocks to dust and pulverize hotel rooms. The thunderous drumbeats and scorching guitar riffs ignite a fire within, and the vocals soar to celestial heights, invoking a sense of euphoria that can only be described as transcendental. Yet, the band is not content with mere fist shaking and knuckle rattling.

Glorious ballads, tender as a lover's whisper, caress the soul with their haunting melodies and heartfelt lyrics. These songs are like shimmering jewels in a musical crown, each note carrying the weight of a thousand emotions.

This album is not just music; it's a celestial voyage, a sonic masterpiece meticulously sculpted by the hands of musical titans. Rebirth - Greatest Hits is a testament to the enduring power of artistry and the indomitable spirit of the Old Gods of Asgard, leaving us spellbound in its radiant glow.

A bit of information about the band: Although two of the band members were involved in Remedy's original Max Payne title, officially, the band's relationship started back in 2003 with Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. For the game, Poets created their first song, Late Goodbye, based on a poem by Sam Lake, after a conversation between Marko and Sam about the formation of his new group.

Almost a decade later, the band returned for the studio's next game, Alan Wake, creating the custom songs, The Poet and the Muse and Children of the Elder God, under their alter-ego, Old Gods of Asgard. Their song War, from their album Twilight Theater, also made an appearance in the game. They returned again two years later for Alan Wake's American Nightmare, with the songs Balance Slays the Demon and The Happy Song (the latter also appearing in the album Temple of Thought). Around the same time, Can You Hear Me, created as an exclusive single to their Alchemy Vol 1 collection, also appeared in the studio's debut mobile game, Death Rally.

After Alan Wake, while they still worked alongside the studio, issues outside of both parties' control led to the absence of a unique track within Quantum Break. Although players can still hear elements in the reworked version of The Labyrinth, heard in the Clearview album. It was only in 2019's Control that the band and studio were able to work once again, bringing Take Control to the table, used during the Control's memorable Ashtray Maze sequence, along with Ultraviolet's The Dark Disquiet making an appearance.

For Alan Wake 2, the band is back with three unique songs, and the band taking on a more concrete form, stepping in as members of the Old Gods of Asgard band.
