Mike Kayatta's PC Gaming Show 2025 FBC: Firebreak Interview & Extended Article

During the PC Gaming Show, Mike Kayatta took to the virtual stage following the FBC: Firebreak launch trailer reveal to talk more about what players can expect when the game launches on June 17th.

Each Summer, the video games industry flares up, with developers targeting the season for their big reveals. Last year, Steam reported that over 19,000 titles had been published on the platform, with almost 80% struggling to find an audience. This surge means that, never more so than in recent years, exposure is liquid gold to studios. Particularly to games like FBC: Firebreak, which are counting on that hype wave to drive last-minute interest in the game ahead of launch.

Now that work isn't trying to kill me, let's jump into the interview and the kick-off to Remedy's event season! In their five-minute interview, Mike talks to host Frankie Ward about the team developing its own identity, switching to a first-person perspective, exploring the absurd, the approach to Crisis Kits, and future plans.

On the topic of future plans, the FBC: Firebreak team has built the game around ideals or expectations. In his interview, Mike states that “one of the big things that we're about is avoiding [is] FOMO, like engagement; y'know, you don't need to check in every day. We're not going to kind of add a timed battle pass , so if you come in on day one, and you come back to us a year from now, all you're going to see is all the great stuff that we add.”

The game will launch next Tuesday with five Jobs, but with plans already in motion for adding more later in the year. On the topic, Mike continues, “already in this year we're going to add two more jobs that add to the other five game modes that we ship with, already growing it by about 40% by the end of the year. We've got additional endgame systems and lots of plans.”

FBC: Firebreak Launch Trailer Shown At PC Gaming Show

Today, Remedy debuted the FBC: Firebreak launch trailer at the PC Gaming Show, a digital Summer event celebrating the exciting adventures heading to the platform over the next few months.

With FBC: Firebreak just over a week away from being released, things are heating up, and the studio is taking advantage of this week's gaming events to help build up pre-launch hype.

For new players, the trailer sets the scene with Hank, the Cave Johnson of the Firebreakers, catching players up to where the FBC is currently. Narrating the trailer, he reveals, “It's been six years now, since we've been locked in with The Hiss. I don't care about your day job. If you can hold a gun and use a tool, Firebreak needs you.” For an impossible place, things are also impossibly stretched at the Oldest House, with random staff fighting the waves with a mismatched collection of tools and gadgets.

Now, while the game centres around the FBC and Hiss, the development team has announced that Control's story continues with its official sequel, Control 2. Instead, FBC: Firebreak provides a snapshot in time of how the bureau has been facing.

While the game is playable just on your own, collaboration is at the heart of the title's design. Hank continues, “I'll be frank with ya, this ain't an easy shift, but at least you won't be alone. Your fellow firebreakers will have your back. Fightin' together. Fixin' together. Hell, even showering together. If you can stand your ground and stick together, it will be more than enough to survive.”

The ninety-second trailer also teases how corrupted items can cause havoc in the game. Making a re-appearance in the trailer is Red Light (AI49-KE), its document warns that “If an entity approaches the item while its red light is activated, they will be instantaneously relocated a distance of [REDACTED] from the item.” While safely secured in the Panopticon in the previous game, this little gremlin has found its way out amid the chaos of the Hiss infestation.

FBC: Firebreak will be launching on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X on June 17th 2025! It is also set to launch Day One on the Xbox PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate, as well as the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue, available for all Extra and Premium members. There will be two versions available: The Standard Edition ($39.99 / €39.99 / £32.99) and the Deluxe Edition ($49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99).
