Control Content Update Coming For Consoles, October 6th
[PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S]

A new free update for Control and Control Ultimate Edition will be coming to consoles on October 6th, providing the perfect excuse to jump back into the FBC. The patch will see a number of PlayStation pre-order cosmetics added to the game, alongside the exclusive mission starring fellow developer, Hideo Kojima.

PC owners have already received the patch back in March, with the release of update 1.30. While likely to be similar, the patch notes for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S update will be published on Monday.

Alongside the March 2025 update, the studio also published a blog post on the game's website detailing the challenge of bringing the new content to the game. In the article, Remedy's Senior Community Manager, Vida Starčević  wrote “While this has always been the plan, it’s taking us a while to ensure that the update propagates (correctly!) across multiple stores and editions of our six-year-old game. We thank you for your understanding, as we’ve had some… surprising things happen now that the patch is live.”

Even back then, bringing the update to consoles was already on the books, as she continues, “In the near future we will release this same update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. We have a small team working on these updates so we want to space them out to give us time to fix potential issues that might come up. We appreciate your patience!”

While the game was released six years ago, Remedy has double-down its commitment to the Control and Alan Wake IPs in their recent H1 Financial Review with plans to expand both.

Anniversary Dev Streams Rescheduled for October 16th

For the past two months, Remedy has been treating the community to weekly livestreams of Control. Held at the end of the week, each three-hour livestream has welcomed a developer who had worked on a different aspect of the game's development. With the community team nearing the end of Jesse's debut adventure, today's broadcast has unfortunately had to be postponed due to technical issues.

The sixth livestream was set to feature Principal Environment Artist, Martin Vierne, who had worked on the FBC's Containment Sector. Half an hour into the livestream's original schedule, Remedy's Senior Community Manager, Vida Starčević, posted an update on the game's Discord server explaining, "No stream today unfortunately - our audio mixer is totally busted."

Livestreams are due to kickstart again on October 16th at 12pm BST (2pm EEST) with Control's Narrative Designer, Brooke Maggs, now Principal Narrative Designer due to join. Make sure to mark your calendar for its return in two weeks.

And in case you missed the livestreams, there's plenty to catch up on! Remedy has been revisiting two fan-favourite titles in a special livestream series. Each week, the community team has been visited by special guests who have worked on the projects. So far, they're deep into Control's story, but will also be checking out both The Foundation and AWE expansions, along with side missions, ahead of its conclusion.

In the meantime, there's still time to catch up if you haven't already! So far, the developers have stepped into the FBC with Juha Vainio (Executive Producer) and Miro Vesterinen (Lead Environment Artist). Helped sort out the Hiss situation in Maintenance with Teemu Huhtiniemi (Principal Level Designer), and Victor Sermin (Build Engineer).

They took over Fridge Duty, declogged those pesky mould growths with Lucile Dolbeau (Senior QA Tester) and Ilmari Timonen (Senior Rigging Artist). The team discovered the truth about Dylan Faden with James Tottman (Principal VFX Artist) and Anna Mellor Meecham (Senior Cinematic Designer), and paved the way towards meeting Polaris with Anne-Marie Grönroos (Lead Level Designer) and Petri Alanko (Composer).

FBC Firebreak Releases Minor 1.6.3 Update
[Rebalancing Difficulty Spikes]

Remedy has deployed a hotfix for FBC: Firebreak across all platforms, to resolve some of the bugs that snuck in with the recent changes. With the patch, the team has rebalanced the difficulty spikes that some player had reported, alongside enemy triggers and task lists. Not content with keeping their antics to within the game world, a very Hiss-centric patch.

Earlier in the week, Remedy released their major September update which weighed just over 5 GB, but this will might lighter on your devices, measuring just under 223 MB. If you want to learn more about the earlier patch, you can check out the full list of changes, HERE.

As for today, here are the 1.6.3 hotfix patch notes:

Fixes & Adjustments

  • Fixed an issue with the Lab Rat voice pack subtitles not displaying correctly (Brazilian Portuguese is still missing and will be added later).

  • Fixed a bug where the Survive the Hiss objective would not end, causing endless enemy waves.

  • Fixed an issue where Powerful Enemies appeared too early in Survive the Hiss. The Powerful Enemy now appears at the end of the event as intended.

  • Lowered the enemy spawn rate in the Recovery objective event.

  • Reduced the health of Hiss Ranger (Airborne)

  • Reduced the number of more resilient enemies in Normal and Easy Threat Levels.
