Today, Remedy announced that their CEO, Tero Virtala, will be stepping down with immediate effect. Virtala has been in the position since August 2016, succeeding Matias Myllyrinne. During the past nine years, Virtala has successfully overseen the transformation to a single-game developer to a multi-project studio, and the introduction of the Remedy Connected Universe. Despite a thirty-year history, the company has only really had two CEOs.
Most recently, Virtala sounded his support for FBC: Firebreak, a move that we appreciated, particularly in a currently aggressive industry.
The company has already begun a search process for a new CEO, with the Board of Directors appointing their Chairman, Markus Mäki, as the company's interim CEO. Mäki will be a familiar name to long-time Remedy fans, as one of the studio's founders and Chief Product Officer.
In the press release, Mäki states “I want to thank Tero Virtala for his substantial contribution to the management of Remedy since 2016. I personally thank Tero for good cooperation and wish him all the best for the future."
The Board has also elected Henri Österlund to take over the role of Chairman of the Board, having been serving with them since 2017.
