Tickets have gone live today for the production of Othello in London's West End. The show will star Alan Wake 2 actor, David Harewood making his return to the lead role!
It's shaping up to be an exciting performance. The show will kick off this autumn and will be held between 23rd October 2025 to January 2026, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It is set to feature Harewood (as Othello) alongside Toby Jones (Iago) and Caitlin FitzGerald (Desdemona), with the production directed by Tom Morris and composed by PJ Harvey.
It will also be the second time that Harewood is stepping into the role, after becoming the first Black actor to play Othello in a National Theatre production, back in 1997. The milestone also being a burden on the young actor who talked about the weight of it in his memoir, Maybe I Don't Belong Here.
Returning to the role, however, has brought a new energy. Talking about the role to UK newspaper, The Guardian, Harewood states that the Shakespearean play is “a fantastically challenging piece of work”, adding “I’m looking forward to approaching it from the point of view of just another actor playing just another part. That perhaps gives me the freedom to explore it slightly differently. I think I was manufacturing quite a lot of the emotion. I can remember that very vividly. I don’t think I’ll have to do that [this time] because it’s simply much more available to me now."
Tickets start at $25! You can learn more about the production and book your tickets on the Theatre Royal Haymarket website, HERE!
In Alan Wake 2, David Harewood stepped into the role of Mr Door, a mysterious talk show host who seems to know a lot more than he's letting on.
