Summer Game Fest Reveals! Alan Wake 2 Physical Editions, Night Springs Trailer with Launch Date, and Photo Mode

Moments ago, Sam Lake (Creative Director) took to the Summer Games Fest stage with a series of new and exciting Alan Wake 2 announcements.

Dancing to The Herald of Darkness as he walked on, the developer seemed buzzing with excitement, engaging with an eager audience as he delved into what's next in the Remedy Connected Universe. Let's take a closer look at each of the three major reveals...

Alan Wake 2 Physical Editions

If, like us, you love collector or physical editions, and we know that many of you do, this is certainly something you're going to be interested in. Coming this autumn, Alan Wake 2 will be available as a deluxe edition and collector's edition. Talking about its upcoming release, Sam teased, "Many of you have been posting your Remedy game collection pictures on your shelves, with Alan Wake 2, so far digital only, sadly missing." For those eager to get your hands on one, he informed viewers that we'll hear more news about both versions tomorrow, along with the ability to lock in your pre-order.

Night Springs Launch Trailer & Release Date

Next, let's head to Night Springs. Clear your diary this weekend; in a surprise announcement, Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC will launch tomorrow (June 8th). If you only have the base game at the moment, you can purchase the Deluxe Edition add-ons separately. The add-on is essential for playing this first of two paid expansions.

Talking about the new adventure on stage, Sam described, "I'm thrilled to introduce to you all to... Night Springs. It contains three episodes, with three familiar fan-favourite playable characters in mysterious, terrifying and quirky 'what if' scenarios. It was a chance for us to really go out there... as if we already didn't. " From the gameplay footage shown, these are our favourite characters, but maybe not quite how we know them.

Accompanying the trailer, Vida Starčević (Senior Community Manager at Remedy) wrote a special PlayStation Blog article detailing what players can expect from the new expansion. In it, she types, "Put yourself in the shoes of the Number One Fan, who bears a striking resemblance to the waitress Rose Marigold, and fight the shadows in pursuit of truth and love with your trusty shotgun by your side. As the Actor, who may be called 'Shawn Ashmore' in some realities and 'Sheriff Timothy Breaker' in others, you will take on the mantle of the Time Breaker and defeat the villain hunting for you. And in the North Star episode, unravel coffee-based secrets and cosmic caffeine mysteries as the Sibling, who may seem familiar to those who know Jesse Faden, director of the Federal Bureau of Control."

Plus, if you're an achievement hunter, keep an eye out for twelve new challenges with the new DLC!

Photo Mode Comes To Alan Wake 2

The final surprise came via the same PlayStation Blog, where Vida announced the pending launch of the highly-anticipated Photo Mode. The feature will be coming to Alan Wake 2 as a free update tomorrow and will include settings such as f-stop, focal length, exposure, and more. Players can also explore their creative side with filters, lighting, and frames.

Writing about the addition, Vida says, "As a team, we’ve learned a lot from developing photo mode for Control, and as a result, we’re very happy to be able to offer players new features in Alan Wake 2’s Photo Mode. You can now play around with lighting and use several types of lighting, such as a spotlight, the flashlight from the game, and, of course, the inevitable and classic camera flash. This gives all you virtual photographers the tools to create shots that can have a dramatically different mood and look to the aesthetics of what you see in the game."
