Remedy to Attend GDC 2023
[Job Openings & Patrick Rosander's Lecture]

Between March 20-24th, Remedy will be attending the Game Developer Conference (GDC) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, USA.

Originally started in April 1988, GDC is a networking event for video game professionals looking to connect and advance their careers and expertise.

With the pandemic still a priority and concern at large gatherings like this, proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to attend GDC 2023. Although masks are not specifically required, a lot of people will be travelling and the organisation is encouraging attendees to stay safe and mask up.

Prices for attendance start at $293, so if you're working at a studio, you might want to roll for persuasion

At the event, Remedy will be talking to potential applicants, and Patrik Rosander will be taking to the Room 207 stage to talk about matte painting. Here is what's happening later this month...

Matte Painting in Games

If you're attending the show, you may also want to check out the lecture, Matte Painting in Games, hosted by Patrik Rosander, Senior Concept Artist at Remedy Entertainment (Stockholm). The keynote explores how a simple and traditional techniques can help to create powerful scenes.

Location: Room 207, South Hall
Date: Friday, March 24
Time: 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm (local time)
Pass Type: All Access Pass, Core Pass
Topic: Visual Arts
Format: Lecture

Remedy Entertainment's Senior Concept Artist Patrik Rosander helps make matte painting for games accessible and broaden use. It is a simple and powerful technique that is underutilized in game development, mainly because it is inaccessible.

Attendees will take away a thorough understanding of the possibilities afforded through the use of matte painting. The use cases presented cover a variety of scenarios and provide enough information to start using matte paintings in ongoing or future projects to achieve a greater visual fidelity and impact.

Takeaway. Attendees will learn different implementations of matte paintings in games, and take a deep dive into the techniques via a case study.

Intended Audience. This is for art directors, concept artists, environment artists, creative directors, producers, or anyone interested in game environments.
