Our friend Jennifer Griffin over at TVPulse Magazine recently interviewed Sean Durrie on taking on the hero's mantle in CONTROL Resonant.
Spanning just over seventy minutes, their conversation touches on a range of topics, including an exploration of Dylan's humanity, the process of bringing the character to life through motion capture and voice recordings, as well as his experience working with Remedy. He also delved into the studio's audition process and how different it is from what you might expect.
While it's a very nerdy interview (our favourite kind!), it's also a very relaxed one, which opened the doors to a deeper exploration of the character. Early on, Sean talks about the emotional weight on the protagonist and how cautious he was about conveying it just right. "The totality of Dylan's experience, there were many parts that got me pretty emotional because I definitely... I didn't want to make him a caricature of a person with trauma, and so I wanted to do justice, cos there are people that that's a very real experience for them, and I didn't want to make it false," Sean states. "So, I did a lot of research on how trauma can affect someone on a physical level, as well as a mental level."
Sean Durrie began working with Remedy back in 2013, initially stepping into the role of a prototype version of Jack Joyce for Quantum Break before becoming the fan-favourite character Nick Marsters in the final edition. Even before the establishment of the Remedy Connected Universe, the studio regularly worked with some of its favourite actors, including Matthew Porretta, Ilkka Villi, James McCaffrey, and Fred Berman, just to name a few. While Quantum Break is not officially part of the RCU, it gave the studio the opportunity to bring in some familiar faces, reuniting with both Courtney Hope (Beth Wilder) and Sean Durrie for Control.
