CONTROL Resonant - Meet The Cast | Development Diary Transcript
Sean Durrie: [What] I'm most excited for people to experience is running around as me this time.
Frankie Kevich: Everybody is just really fleshed out and thought out.
Matthew Porretta: This is a character that I absolutely love.
Opening Credits: Meet the Cast
Juha Vainio: We've been working with Courtney [Hope] and Sean [Durrie] for almost 10 years in the CONTROL franchise. Obviously, even earlier on Quantum Break and it's been a super nice collaboration building these characters from [the] ground up. Of course, both Dylan and Jesse in original Control are quite different from what we have in Resonant. Both characters have grown and we worked together with Courtney and Sean to build those characters. So, it's been nice! They know the franchise well. We know the characters well. So, there have been few chances to go really, really wild with them, especially on Resonant.
Sean Durrie: Working with Remedy on this project is a lot of fun. It's so thrilling to get the call that something you've been in is going to get a sequel.
Courtney Hope: Yeah!
Sean Durrie: -cuz you get to revisit a character you've done before that you've lived in and watch them change into something new, and that's really a thrilling experience.
Courtney Hope: Yeah, absolutely. And I love that we get to explore Jesse and Dylan more because I'm so invested in Jesse and Dylan's life. And to be able to see that play out and to get more in-depth of their story is really fun and really exciting. And to be doing it again and to be doing it with the Remedy family is an honour. It's very fun.
Sean Durrie: Well, it's really cool to explore a sibling dynamic as actors anyway, because siblings are so close. You can fight with a sibling more than you can fight with anybody else. You can also love a sibling more than you could love anybody else. They can be your best friend and the most frustrating person in the world at the same time. And so that dynamic is starting to take shape more in Control Resonant.
Courtney Hope: I also think it's really fascinating that, you know, even in the first Control, feeling like, you know, wanting to take care of somebody else. Wanting to be there for someone else that, y'know, I as Jesse care about so much, but also finding my own way, finding my own purpose too. And I think that continues, right? It's its co-regulating of [music] each other, right? It's like how you're feeling/I'm feeling kind of that thing when they were young, right? They feel each other so deeply, but then to learn to be autonomous of that, and what does that look like in the world, in this crazy, weird, broken world? What does that look like? So, there's challenges in and of itself then because there's so many possibilities and so many options, and sometimes it's not even about choosing the right one. It's just about choosing the most interesting one and the one that, kind of, unearths other interesting options.
Sean Durrie: And it's wild to wake up and discover your sister is the director of the FBC. Yeah.
Courtney Hope: Yeah.
Sean Durrie: Baller. [laughs]
Courtney Hope: I'm just sayin'. [flicks hair back]
Frankie Kevich: It's been a dream getting to work with Remedy on this project. You could just feel all of the care and the passion that the team has put into the characters, because everybody is just really fleshed out and thought out and has a lot of depth to them. So, I think the way that Zoe really changes throughout Control Resonant is... kind of her journey takes her from somebody who's like really jaded with her life and with her position at the FBC and among meeting and working with Dylan and talking with somebody who doesn't have as many life experiences. I think that she gains a lot of you know perspective and appreciation for life, and gains a lot of empathy out of that.
Matthew Porretta: When I heard about Control Resident and that Darling was coming back, I was absolutely thrilled. I mean, this is a character that I absolutely love. And, you know, when that game ended, it's like all you wanted to do is to come back. So, then when they say, "Hey, it's coming back." I was thrilled. I mean, I couldn't, I couldn't wait. Couldn't wait to do it. Darling's relationship with the FBC is... complex. He's a scientist, but he also is trying to protect the FBC and the world from destruction. So, it's very layered in what's going on beacuse he's not in charge of the FBC, but he's been left to figure all that out.
Antonia Bernath: Working with Remedy on this project has been a dream. I just love it. It's amazing to work with Hannah [Price], the Director, who I've known for a long time, and I just I adore her and just everyone. And to be part of this, a really small part in this massive intricate world is, it's really exciting.
Antonia Bernath: I love Emily. She is uh she's kind, she's loyal, she's generous, she's brilliant, obsessive, obsessive about her work, and she loves her work. She's... where other people see the paranatural and they are frightened, she, you know, she just loves it. She wants to understand it and categorise it and map it, and that's, yeah, that's her passion. Yeah, she's really exciting to play.
Ronan Summers: Well, when I found out about Control Resonant, I was super excited because I've been looking for an opportunity to come back and work with Remedy and revisit the character for the longest. And I didn't know if it was going to happen. I mean, it's been a while. So, usually if you don't hear about a sequel within a few years, you can kind of count it out. So it was a great surprise to get the phone call and to revisit a character which I thought had a lot of potential to go in plenty of different directions and I was really excited to see where the character would go.
Ronan Summers: Simon Arish is an incredibly honourable man. He is a loyal person. He cares deeply for the people that he works with at the FBC. That's really, really clear. And he often puts other people before himself. I think over the course of his time at the bureau that has caused him a lot of angst and ground down on him, but deep down he's still a really good guy.
Derek Hagen: Playing Langston in [music] Control 1 was a real uh journey of discovery for me, discovering the whole world as it were. And trying to figure out who this person was cuz on the first read of the script, you could sometimes only see the sort of negative or the more overtly brusque side of him. And it was only once we got into the sessions and doing the recording that we started to dig in and dig back the layers and sort of find the more caring person underneath. And he is there. I promise you he's there.
Courtney Hope: Working with Remedy [music] now for 12 years is been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I mean, to have a family that's so loyal that you continue to get to grow with and learn from. I mean, I'm definitely different than I was back then.
Sean Durrie: Yeah! As a person, I mean, definitely grew up. And it's fun! We've known each other now the whole time, and it's really cool to, you know, work with someone in different capacities for over a decade, you know? And then come back to the same company that they love us being here, and I'm sure that we both love being here, too. [looks over at Courtney]
Courtney Hope: Yes, we definitely do.
Sean Durrie: I'm most excited for people to experience is running around as me this time. Like, in the first Control, you run around as her [nods at Courtney] and then this one, you get to run around as me. And I hope that people like running around in Dylan's shoes and, y'know, using his weapon, and y'know, fighting the Hiss and doing all of those things.
Courtney Hope: Yeah, I'm actually most excited for that [music] as well because what I was going to say is just having a different perspective of this of the sibling story and that's what I'm most excited about. It's so interesting, and it's so powerful, and to be able to get a different perspective into it is going to be really, really fun for everyone.
Sean Durrie: Absolute cinema.
