Back in August, we spotlighted Yasmin's stunning fan-created concept artwork of Alan Wake 2's Freya Anderson. While an important character, there's a lot of mystery surrounding who Saga's mother was, making it an irresistible topic of exploration. For the piece, Yasmin researched the lore of what we knew about Saga's mother and the Norse mythology that is so intrinsically tied to the Anderson family, to create a fully fleshed out concept of who Freya was.
In a follow-up piece, Yasmin focused on another significant but hidden character from Alan Wake 2, Logan Anderson.
Logan is Saga's and David Wood's young daughter, who is inadvertently pulled into Alan's story. While in reality, she lives with both parents, and loves watching Night Springs and teasing Casey, the Return manuscript begins to pull her into its darker narrative. In an alternative history, Login lived at Watery Lighthouse Trailer Park until her recent death at Cauldron Lake at the age of nine. Faced with this alternative narrative, Saga refuses to believe that her daughter had passed away, and fights for the timeline she knew. Despite not being physically present in the game, her character and the love that others have for her, makes her central to the game's plot.
Similar to Freya's exploration, the player does get a small glimpse of Logan in a framed photograph, making the perfect springboard into character exploration. Her lighthearted and sassy personality also comes through in the various gifts that we see from her throughout the adventure, such as Saga's handmade bracelet and the “Not The Worst Mom” mug. Most importantly, unlike Freya, there's an actor behind the role, Drew Hylton.
For Yasmin's Logan Anderson concept artwork, she capitalised on those sneak peaks into the character's personality and humour. Elements have been inspired by Saga's style, but with a softer and more childlike-perspective. For the main outfit, the combination of jeans and jumper remains, but for Logan, the colours are brighter, bolder and are matched with a stronger pattern. Her raincoat too has similarities to Saga's crimson windbreaker available as a pre-order exclusive cosmetic, but instead more playful and child like in a vibrant yellow. The outfit has been paired with the handmade bracelet and badge-adorned messenger bag, bringing through Logan's personality and hobbies in a subtle but effective way.
On her ArtStation portfolio, Yasmin explores the character deeper than the images she shared on social media. Across a series of concepts, she explores the various hair and clothing styles that Logan's character would fit, and the different moods and occasions they would reflect. As Logan is a young teenager, there's also a look into how her own identity and interests are coming into play, with a pair of teal headphones wrapped around her neck. There are also callbacks to the Alan Wake series, with a rather cute Tom the Diver keychain, a nod to the themed charms that Saga collects on her journey, as well as iron-on badges.
Talking about her work on ArtStation, Yasmin writes, “Another project I really enjoyed was developing a concept for Logan, Saga Anderson’s daughter. Since Alan Wake 2 only gives us a few details about her, it was challenging and exciting to imagine who she could be in that universe. I envisioned Logan at 14 years old curious, strong-willed, and just as sharp and funny as her mother. In this concept, I focused on shaping her visual identity, personality, and the accessories she might carry subtle details that hint at her connection to the supernatural layers of Alan Wake’s world. She may very well inherit the mysterious powers of the Anderson bloodline, but that’s a story waiting to unfold in the next chapter of the Alan Wake saga.”
