Behind ValentinaPaz's Stunning 30th Anniversary Commission

Last month, Remedy kicked off their anniversary celebrations, announcing a list of surprises including a collaboration with iam8bit, a series of new livestreams, and a special commission by community artist, ValentinaPaz

Known for her beautifully sprawling scenes, packed with characters and personality, ValentinaPaz's work has been a breathtaking treat in the community. In her latest work, she celebrates Remedy's milestone with another complexly beautiful pieces, featuring the Remedy Connected Universe heroes celebrating at an Old Gods of Asgard gig.

But that's not all! Following the reveal of the artwork, ValentinaPaz wrote an in-depth article for her website breaking down its process, from creating sketches, to using Blender to create depth, and through to building up certain key sections. Introducing the project, she explains, “The assignment was to make an illustration featuring all the main characters from their games, that would be used as a header on social media platforms in celebration of the studio's 30th anniversary (you know, no pressure). And other than a suggested number of characters, I was given full creative freedom.”

Another surprisingly element in her work is how she uses classical inspirations as a thread throughout the project. “Zdzisław Beksiński is my favorite artist of all time, and while I was aware it was going to be nearly impossible to bring something of his art into an illustration like this (in a way that was obvious), I wanted to at least use one of his works as a starting point for colors. I often think the dream-like atmosphere of his paintings of cathedrals and buildings would fit a depiction of the Oldest House extremely well. So while the end result may be too subtle to notice, his works is what I had in mind when I conceived the color palette, and while I was painting the sky, clouds, the Oldest House and Mirror Peak.” For her artwork, she took inspiration of the movement and colour of the Polish artist's piece, “Untitled 2003 - Towers in the Ether”

We're not going to delve too deep into as it's a fantastic read for a uniquely stunning piece, and we highly recommended checking out on your Sunday morning. You can read ValentinaPaz's article, HERE.
