Yesterday, we wrote about the NVIDIA #GeForceSummer of RTX, but for those already eager for the spooky cooler months to appear, we have something for you too! Today, Surgent Studios' brand-new game, Dead Take is officially out on PC via Steam and The Epic Games Store!
The title is a first-person psychological horror game, which blends gameplay and live action, and features a strong cast including Ben Starr, Neil Newbon, Jane Perry, Alanah Pearce, and Sam Lake (Creative Director on Alan Wake 2), plus many more. It's an incredibly nerdy line-up.
While the developers have intentionally been quiet in regard to the plot, they have teased the setup and it's definitely interesting! In searching for your missing friend, you track him down to the latest place he was seen, a luxurious mansion in the aftermath of a wild party. To discover what happened to Vinny, you must piece together fragments of the night, by solving puzzles and unearthing memory cards.
As the game has just been released, we don't know for certain, but from early looks, the narrative is structure feels similar to that of Gone Home or What Remains of Edith Finch. Both games place the player within a specific location and tasks them with discovering the truth by examining items throughout. It's only in these collectibles that the games bring in the actors.
For Sam's role in the game, he is listed as a cameo, playing the mysterious Frank. While information is intentionally kept limited, the studio has detailed a little further about the various cameo actors you may meet. They write, "many of the cameo videos are stashed away in specific parts of the mansion, and you may or may not find them depending on how diligent a USB hunter you are. We're purposely not showing much of how these incredibly actors appear in game, mostly because we want it to be fun for you guys to find them yourselves without having us spoon feed them to you. That said, they are very cool, so it won't be long after launch that we start showing a little more. So get hunting, and let us know when you find them!"
The title has just been released today, is Steam Deck Verified, and costs just $14.99 USD. For Steam players, there's an introductory offer of 10% off for a limited time.
