FBC: Firebreak's Jerry Returns For New F.A.S.T Training [Episode Five: Frequency Shift]

The fifth episode of Surviving The Workplace has officially gone live on the Remedy's YouTube. This time, Jerry (and his long-suffering assistant Alex) focus on the current penultimate Job, Frequency Shift, discussing what Firebreakers should and shouldn't do while exploring the Research Section.

In the mission, players are tasked with removing exogenic masses (aka Pink) which are blocking the FBC turbines and fixing the vital electrical equipment. The masses provide both threat and puzzle, with pathways and shelters blocked by this mysterious organism. Much like the Paper Chase job, the Pink sticks to Firebreakers which can lead to deadly consequences.

Surviving the Workplace is a new six-part video series published on the Remedy YouTube channel. Centred around their latest launch, FBC: Firebreak, the series is hosted by the Operations bureaucrat Jerry Standish, whose training session takes the form of delightful puppets. It's like a less intense Threshold Kids. You can catch up on the series, HERE.

(A sign appears on screen reading, "Surviving The Workplace and You. #087 Pink? Thanks but No Thanks.)

Jerry Standish: In today's Firebreak Auxiliary Safety Training, we'll be tiptoeing into the wondrous world of threshold breaches and exogenic mass. But first, three F.A.S.T. facts about the mass! Fast.

Jerry Standish: F.A.S.T. fact number one! Exogenic mass is pink. F.A.S.T. fact two! Although the definition of "exogenic" often means something formed on the surface of the Earth. Here, the FBC is relying on its other definition, which is "something formed outside of a system", and in this case, the system we're talking about being outside of... is basically Earth, or at least its dimension. F.A.S.T. fact three! Exogenic mass doesn't like our attempts to remove it. So, if you allow it to form on your body, it will try to make you explode. Got it? Okay.

Jerry Standish: Let’s join some Firebreakers at the site of the breach and research to watch what happens when they become faced with a serious job site safety decision.

(The curtains draw together and reopen to reveal the new job site along with three Firebreaker puppets surrounded by an ominous pink mass. They quickly take down one of The Hiss.)

Alex #1: Wow! I haven't seen this much pink in one place since watching a game of that sports team I like whose uniforms are all pink. How about you, Alex?

Alex #2: The same, Alex. Let's make sure to keep our distance. Much like the speed of the athlete from that popular sports team you referenced, this stuff is explosive!

(The puppets fire at the exogenic mass which disintegrates. The curtains close and re-open on Jerry.)

Jerry Standish: Keeping your distance from volatile substances on the job site. Really good thinking there, Alexes! Ahhh, but I wonder what could have happened if Dave had been in charge.

(Jerry shakes his head as the curtains close. When they re-open moments later, we return to the job site.)

Dave: Oh, look at all this pink. Pink is the colour of lame dolls and the only crayon I never use. I'm going to go get it, and bring it to a trash can because it's trash, and that's where trash goes.

Alex #1: Wow. You really hate pink, Dave, and that's okay, but I don't think we should touch it.

Dave: Stop trying to protect the trash. Come here you trash.

(Dave starts to collect the exogenic mass.)

Alex #2: Dave! Look out! Hiss!

(The Hiss fire at Dave, who is now covered with exogenic masses. A large "BAM" sign is lifted up in shot.)

Dave: I'm dying. I'm dead.

Jerry Standish: Urgh. Woof! Well, at least he was right about one thing. Pink. Thanks, but no thanks.

(The sign from before appears in front of Jerry as he bats it away.)

Alex: Oops. Sorry. Sorry.

Jerry Standish: So remember, everyone, when job site danger calls, Be an Alex. Not a Dave.
