Today marks three years since Alan Wake Remastered launched worldwide! Developed in collaboration with d3t, the project saw the adventure brought to modern machines, including PlayStation for the first time.
While it was unknown at the time, the release marked the first step in Remedy's return to the Alan Wake series, with work beginning on the sequel two year earlier. With ten years separating the releases, the developers decided upon acquiring the publishing rights from Microsoft and working with an exterior partner on a remaster. Returning to the story with fresh eyes provided the opportunity to improve on several areas that original deadlines prevented, and reach a new audience.
It's a title that is pretty close to our hearts, as surprisingly as we were given permission to reveal it. Writing on The Sudden Stop, Sam Lake (Remedy's Creative Director) explained the studio's approach, "Alan Wake Remastered is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades."
To celebrate the anniversary, we reached out on Twitter to ask how you discovered the Alan Wake series. We heard from 370 wonderful players, and this is what you said...
Morry: Fascinating results! It really shows you how some older games could benefit greatly from a remaster / remake. With the Max Payne remake in the pipeline, it's going to be fun to introduce a whole new generation to that series, too.
Aaron: Started with Remastered.
