Alan Wake 2 Wins D.I.C.E Award In "Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction"

Yesterday evening, the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards took place at the Aria Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada  (USA). The ceremony, organised by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) celebrated video games and the developers behind them, spotlighting over fifty titles and studios throughout the show, streamed live on IGN.

By the end of the night, Remedy and Alan Wake 2 took home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, a prestigious award with tough competition in the category.

Taking to the stage, Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy) received the award on behalf of the game's incredible art department."Thank you so much. Accepting this on behalf of our Art Director, Janne Pulkkinen, who is a wonderful collaborative genius, and his whole art team," Sam begins. "We really wanted to bring a unique look for the game through our Northlight engine as well. We were looking for inspiration in art house cinema, in art photography, for our live action we were kind of crazy and wanted to do practical effects. You'd know, if you played the game, and seen the vortex between the worlds, that's actually a slow-motion camera pointed to a blender with coloured liquids. And in the Dark Place, in our New York, all the graffiti under the guidance of our lead environment artist, Nazareno Ubrano, all of that is done by graffiti artists on actual walls and photographed into the game. For a horror game, obviously lighting, VFX, is critically important. This means a lot; Janne definitely deserves this. Thank you. Thank you so much."

Following the announcement, Remedy posted on Facebook, "Alan Wake 2 was honored with the award for Art Direction by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences at the #DICEAwards! Thank you for acknowledging our studio's hard work on a game that's been a dream to make. Thank you to our publisher, Epic Games, for the trust, and to our community for the love!"
