The Game Awards 2023: Alan Wake 2 Nominated Across Eight Categories

This evening, Geoff Keighley, creator and host of The Game Awards, revealed the list of nominations for the upcoming ceremony, set to be held on December 7th.

In the fifteen-minute broadcast, Alan Wake 2 was nominated across a total of eight different categories, including Best Performance (for Melanie Liburd as Saga Anderson), Best Art Direction, Best Score & Music (Petri Alanko), Best Audio Design, Best Narrative, Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Game Direction, and Game of the Year.


The Nomination Process. Nominees are selected by an international jury, forming over a hundred carefully selected media and influencer outlets. Usually, there are five titles or individuals selected for each category, but a sixth option may be included in the case of a nomination tie. Winners are determined by a "blended vote", with 90% taken from a voting jury and 10% taken from public voting. The percentage balance is to ensure that an authentic vote and is not swayed by marketing campaigns or game popularity.

The Game Awards 2023 are due to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (USA) on Thursday, December 7th (16:30 PT / 19:30 ET / 00:30 GMT / 02:30 EET), with a 4K livestream inviting an international audience. You can learn more about the awards, HERE


Best Performance. For Best Performance, Melanie Liburd, who plays Saga Anderson, is up against an otherwise all-male category, including Ben Star (Final Fantasy XVI), Cameron Monaghan (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor), Idris Elba (Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty), Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3) and Yuri Lowenthal (Marvel's Spider-Man 2).

Best Art Direction. Awarded for "outstanding creative and/or technical achievement in artist design and animation", the Best Art Direction category includes Alan Wake 2 (Remedy Entertainment), Hi-Fi Rush (Tango Gameworks), Lies of P (Round8 Studios), Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo EPD), and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo EPD).

Best Score & Music. In Best Score & Music, Petri Alanko's Alan Wake 2 soundtrack is competing against Baldur's Gate 3 (Borislav Slavov), Final Fantasy XVI (Masayoshi Soken), Hi-Fi Rush (Shuichi Kobori), and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo).

Best Audio Design. With Best Audio Design, Alan Wake 2 is up against Dead Space, Hi-Fi Rush, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Resident Evil 4

Best Narrative. In Best Narrative, Alan Wake 2 story is up against Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Final Fantasy XVI, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Game Direction. Alongside Alan Wake 2 in the category of Game Direction are Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Best Action / Adventure. Competing for Best Action / Adventure game is Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Game of the Year. Finally, for Game of the Year, Alan Wake 2 is facing some tough competition, with the title up against Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
