Community Spotlight: Evil-Owl-Loki's Alan Wake Fan Art

Community Spotlight is a regular feature which highlights amazing fan projects in the Remedy community. This year, I wanted to start with a fan artist who has been producing incredible pieces of Alan Wake artwork for a while now, Evil-Owl-Loki.

If you've been following the Alan Wake tag on Tumblr, chances are that you've already encountered some of the fantastic work before. Each piece is an interesting blend of the normality mixed with the supernatural horror elements of the franchise. For instance, distorted differences in reflections and the ominous shadows cast over the characters' faces perfectly recreates the unsettling mood which is at the heart of the games.

Evil-Owl-Loki is obviously very talented at drawing a wide range, and experiments with new ideas in an interesting way. Each piece has a contrasting element such as Wake's portrait with a reflection of Mr Scratch in the metal of a knife. The same can be said about the two glasses below which are themed on both the writer and his evil double.

I also love how they imply danger rather than show it. While playing Alan Wake's American Nightmare, you know that Mr Scratch is a dangerous guy but the extent of his actions are implied rather than shown directly on the screen. The same can be said of Evil-Owl-Loki's work where there's a hint and representation of something dark and dangerous but doesn't show explicitly what that is. That's also something which adds to their work.

You can follow Evil-Owl-Loki's adventures on Twitter and Tumblr*!
