Community Spotlight is a regular feature which highlights amazing fan projects in the Remedy community. For 2018 we're switching things up a little with each month having its own spotlighted fan and fan project. For our September feature I'm excited to talk about Gatto's work, a talented artist and Alan Wake fan from St Petersburg, Russia.
For the past three years, Gatto has been treating fans to gorgeous pieces of artwork inspired by the Alan Wake series and specially designed in their unique style. Their creations has captured the interest of a strong audience with almost 5000 followers in VK, and over 500 on Instagram. Most of their Alan Wake pieces revolves around Alan Wake's American Nightmare and especially around Mr Scratch, as evil doubles play a major part of their collection. But Alan Wake is only one of a number of collections Gatto has, alongside Detroit: Become Human, Assassin's Creed: Origins, Narcos, The Evil Within 2 and more, in addition to pieces detailing original characters.
What makes their work special and eye-catching is the careful use of lineart and their impressive use of complementary colours, with the characters frequently lit by an out-of-shot bright neon illumination against a darkened teal. It's a gorgeous look, and one that fits perfectly with the atmosphere Gatto is creating. Looking closely at their work, it's not plain uniform colours but textured, giving the pieces a wonderful grainy-old film look reminiscent of American Nightmare's art style, making their work attractive.
At the time of writing, Gatto has created over twenty unique pieces of Alan Wake fan art on their Tumblr page, some canon and others headcanon, hopefully we'll see that collection grow even bigger as time goes on.
