Today, EDGE Magazine released its May 2026 edition with a special cover feature on CONTROL Resonant!
Issue #422 marks the first time that Dylan has graced a magazine cover, and to celebrate, the publication features a mindblowing custom art piece by Michal Motulewicz (Senior Concept Artist at Remedy).
Inside the nine-page feature, writer Alex Spencer details his visit to the studio in Finland, which included an exclusive look at the game and an exploration of how the player can shake up the action with Dylan's powers. He also had the opportunity to sit down with some key players behind the game, including Sean Durrie (Lead Actor, Dylan Faden), Mikael Kasurinen (Creative Director), Elmeri Raitanen (Art Director), and Sergey Mohov (Lead Gameplay Designer).
The feature is packed with new information and wonderful tidbits. We learn how Dylan originally started off as a possible protagonist in Control, with the player potentially choosing between him and Jesse at the start of the adventure. As concepts developed, the characters became fleshed out, and it became clearer that they couldn't be interchangeable.
We also learn that with Jesse missing, her last act as Director was to pierce Dylan's chest with the Aberrant, which allows the Board to communicate with him. Waking up from the coma isn't quite as straightforward; in Control, Jesse steps into a world unknown as she enters The Oldest House, and for Dylan, the adventure would be his first outside in two decades. Supporting him is his handler, Zoe De Vera (played by Frankie Kevich).
And when it comes to that pesky Aberrant, the item's origins actually complement Alan Wake's Clicker, with its design inspired by a homemade jeweller's anvil found at a flea market.
That's only just some of what the feature reveals. With Remedy going in a different direction for Control's sequel, learning about the studio's decision to go with a new protagonist and playstyle was at the top of the agenda. And the nine-page feature covers it perfectly, with an in-depth piece exploring the decisions from multiple craft perspectives.
