There are places in our world where fiction and dreams can come true.

The Return of A.W.E? / Gamescom 2015

Back in early June, I posted an article about two new trademarks that Remedy registered. One was "A.W.E" and the other was "AWE: Bureau of Altered World Events". The application was made with The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) for the European Union. But that wasn't the first time we heard about AWE.

Three years ago, Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy) created a blog entitled This House of Dreams. The site followed a fictional woman called Samantha who moves into her dream house in the town of Ordinary, where strange things begin to happen. Soon after moving in she finds a shoebox full of old poems and photographs which the blog focuses on. The events mirror the story line of Alan Wake but is it's own tale.

In the post, Samantha has a dream about an FBI agent who appears at her door. His face is wrapped in moving shadows. He questioned her about the box, stated that it has classified information inside and said that he would have to take it away. But the shoebox was gone, both in the dream and in real life. "When I think back about the dream, it didn’t say 'FBI' on his badge; it said 'AWE'." AWE: Bureau of Altered World Events! Click HERE to read the post.

It seems that AWE might not be restricted to just the Alan Wake universe.

At the start of the Gamescom 2015 demo, Jack is taking cover from the Monarch soldiers. In the background, you can see the letters "AWE" painted on the side of a building. The building itself looks like it's behind Monarch's defenses... so what are they up to?
